Machine Knit Guild of the San Francisco Bay Area

Sharing our enthusiasm about the art of machine knitting.

Meeting

The Guild meets the first Saturday of every month September through June, except in 2008 the September meeting will be a two day seminar Sept. 12 and 13th.  Please see the meeting location tab for instructions how to get to our usual meeting place, the Salvation Army meeting hall at 4600 Appian Way in El Sobrante, CA.

Members and guests start gathering at 9:15 with coffee, goodies and a chance to browse our library.  At 9:45 the meeting starts with announcements, introductions, and then a Show and Tell session where members share work they have completed or are working on.  We take a quick coffee break and then have a short program.  Six meetings a year we also have an two hour afternoon seminar presented by instructors from outside our guild.  The usual cost is $20.  The seminar is for members only.

Knitting Machine: Owing a knitting machine is not a requirement. Due to space considerations personal machines are not brought to meetings except the October meeting.

Guests: Guests are welcome at all meetings. Guests wishing to stay for the seminar may join the guild the same day. The morning program is open to members and guests. The afternoon workshop is for members only, and is usually $20.

June 7, 2008 June is our year end potluck, yarn sale and equipment sale.  We start with a short business meeting to officially elect next year’s board and then, of course, show and tell.

Almost anything related to knitting can be brought for sale, and you can either trade or sell your items.  Be sure to tag them with the seller’s name and price.  This is a good time to start cleaning out your stash by gathering up those yarns and other goodies which you can sell or trade.  Getting rid of your unused stash give you space for what you will want to pick up at the June gathering.  This is a good time to bring machine items you don’t use as well, or even machines you have for sale.

Everyone brings a dish to feed between 6 and twelve people – doesn’t matter whether it is salad, main dish, dessert, or something special..  Pot luck traditionally is just yummy.  We end by about 12:00.

NO MEETINGS IN JULY AND AUGUST

September 12 and 13th  (a week later than our usual meeting day)  we start the year with a fabulous two day seminar by Iris Bishop from England.  This is a Friday/Saturday seminar at our usual meeting place at the Salvation Army, so start working on freeing up your Friday.  Keep your eyes open for further plans.  We will need lots of committee members and helpers, and much of the work will be done over the summer when we don’t meet.

October 4, 2008 will be our hands-on workshop where the experienced knitters help the newer knitters.  This was great fun for all last year, and everyone seemed to learn a lot, whether they were teachers or students.  It lasts until 2:30 or so, but there is no charge for this session.

November 1 2008 is our all day one day seminar with the ribber queen, Helen Griffiths.  Those of us who attended her seminar last year learned a tremendous amount about the ribber, and clearly she barely scratched the surface of what she can teach us.  We will forego our normal morning session, and roll right into the seminar after coffee.  We’ll break for lunch and then continue the seminar until probably around 4:00 – 5:00 or so.

December will be our Holiday Potluck, yarn and equipment sale.

Hope to see everyone at  our fabulous programs.
